Novartis announced that the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted Breakthrough Therapy designation to CTL019, an investigational chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapy, for the treatment of adult patients with relapsed and refractory (r/r) diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL), who have failed two or more prior therapies. Recently, scientists have engineered cells from a patient’s own immune system to fight cancers. The treatment with the engineered immune cells, called CAR T-cell therapy, may work even better if doctors transplant a subset of immune cells known as memory T-cells, researchers reported February fourteen at the American Association for the Advancement of Science’s annual meeting. ATHENS (Reuters) – A former Greek prime minister was injured when a booby-trapped package exploded in his car in central Athens on Thursday in the worst act of violence targeting politicians in the crisis-hit country for several years.
