White car ‘key’ to unsolved murder of Sydney teenage

Police have released CCTV footage of a white car they believe is the key to solving the murder of a 15-year-old shot dead in Sydney in April.

The teenager was shot twice in the head at close range while he slept in his Glenfield home on April 14.

Police believe a masked shooter broke into the home on Good Friday, threatened the teenage's mother with a gun, and then entered his bedroom, shooting him twice.

The shooter then fled the scene.

The teenager was taken to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead where he later died, and Strike Force Wongala was formed to investigate his death.

Detectives have trawled through hundreds of hours of CCTV, releasing photos of a white Mazda three hatch, which could be the getaway car.

“Detectives have reviewed hours of CCTV via the Glenfield area tracking numerous vehicles, but this one is the only one which fits the timeframe,” Detective Chief Inspector Mark Henney said.

“This car arrives in the area about fifteen minutes before the murder and is seen leaving the area less than five minutes after the murder.”

The car is a white Mazda three hatchback with what emerges to be a green P plate placed close to a white registration plate.

The registration number is unlikely to make out in the movie and Det. Henney said he hoped the public would help provide some answers.

“We hope a member of the community may be able to assist – either by recognising the car or possibly captured on a dash-cam,” he said.

“It’s only a matter of time before we find it ourselves, but we’d love someone to help speed the process up.

“We believe once we locate this car, we will be able to identify those responsible for the murder.”

Det. Henney said the murder was “planned and calculated” describing it as “particularly callous”.
