UPDATE: three DEAD, eleven INJURED IN MULTI-CAR PILE UP

UPDATE (Ten:23pm): The westbound lanes of I ninety six are open again.

UPDATE (Three:13pm): Officials say three people are dead after a series of accidents along I ninety six near Fowlerville.

They say slick roads and white out conditions are to blame for the chain-reaction accident.

The three people, who were in two vehicles, were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have not publicly identified the victims or described their gender, age, or any other details about them. They say it will likely be tomorrow before they release the identities of the victims.

Another eleven people were hurt.

At Trio:20 p.m., they said the highway will be closed for “another duo hours” and should open inbetween five and six p.m.

There’s no final count, but police say “approximately 40” vehicles were involved in the pile up.

About a dozen police and fire departments, along with officials from several other agencies, responded to the morning crash.

The eastbound lanes of 96, which have since re-opened, were only to permit service vehicles to get to the scene. There were no accidents on that side of the highway.

ORIGINAL STORY: At least two people are dead in a series of accidents that involved thirty to forty cars and semi trucks.

That’s according to the Michigan State Police.

The pile up is happened along Interstate ninety six near Fowlerville, which is east of Lansing.

The road is closed at Okemos, a few miles west of Fowlerville.

Police are warning people to be careful on the roads and to give yourself extra time if you need to get anywhere.
