A truck that shot off the Northwest Stewart Parkway overpass landed on Interstate Five, crashing into five other vehicles, according to witnesses and the Roseburg Fire Department.

Shortly before one p.m., a silver truck that was traveling on Northwest Stewart Parkway in north Roseburg drove off the road, hopped the sidewalk and landed in the northbound lanes of the highway just north of exit 125.

The truck collided with oncoming traffic, causing powerful harm to at least three other vehicles. A pickup truck, towing a fifth wheel, was also involved in the crash.

Numerous injuries were reported, according to Roseburg Fire Chief Gregg Timm, and the road was shut down for about an hour. According to the Oregon Department of Transportation, all lanes of the highway were reopened at approximately Two:04 p.m., albeit further delays are expected as cleaning crews proceed to liquidate debris from the area.

Jim and Anna Mitchell, who were traveling north nt California, had a front-row view of the entire incident as the truck drove off the overpass just a few feet in front of their vehicle.

“He went right off the overpass and right into traffic at a high rate of speed,” Jim Mitchell said.

“We witnessed him come flying over the highway and our friends, who are in the travel trailer up there, swerved before the truck and the four other cars smashed right into the embankment,” Anna Mitchell said.

The Mitchells and their two dogs were traveling north from California to their home in Parksville, British Columbia, Canada.

“We’re just heading home — leisurely,” Jim Mitchell said.
