Car seat laws in greece? Greece Forum

car seat laws in greece?

could somebody send me a link to the greek child car seat laws? are child seats required in greece? what are the age/weight/height limit? if seats are necessary, are the us seats ok?

Only online resourCe i could find goes after.

It includes information about child transport laws that apply here in Greece. These laws are actually European laws, and i ‘d dare say they must be similar to those applying in the States.

As far, as i know, no specific dimensions are underlined.

Basically what this two thousand six law says is:

– Under three years old: Only safe way to carry a kid is what’s shown in Pic.1 which is the baby seat, reversed; either on a front seat or a back seat, in combination with use of the safety belt to secure the baby car seat. Unluckily, exemptions apply if you are in a taxi or a rented car. In other words, taxis and rented car users / renters are not obliged to have / supply a baby seat. Exemptions apply also ( sensibly ) if carrying a baby in emergency conditions, where no baby seat is required. In all these exemptions, if no baby seat is provided / used, use of safety belt is a thick no-no.

– It seems to me that specific leaflet also directs age of thirteen along with height of 1m.35cm ( that’s appx. 4ft five inches ) as a limit on whether seatbelt will be permitted without the use of some special seat. As far as i can read, no weight limit applies.

In other words: if a kid is junior than thirteen or shorter than 4ft five inches, a special seating is required, in the form of picture two or three ( car seat or “cushio” ). Concept is that safety belt has to be used in combination with a seat ( or “cushion” ) that will bring the belt in the correct position, diagonally over the shoulder and pecs, instead of getting it to high and nearer to the head and neck.

– If a kid is older than thirteen AND over 4ft five inches, than use of safety belt as an adult would do seems to be permitted.

I wasn’t able to find detailed documentation. This is not official advise, just a leafelt i found 🙂 It seems to me however that despite any laws, road behaviour and car safety as you would go after / practice in the US is a worldwide necessity, despite what any law dictates. That means that if somewhere local laws are “softer” you should go after what you practice in US.
