Five carjackings, one armed robbery in forty eight hours are connected: NOPD

A series of five carjackings and an armed robbery that occurred within a 48-hour period in various parts of the city are connected, the NOPD said Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 23). Four cars and one scooter have been stolen, including one vehicle that has since been recovered by NOPD.

The latest in the series of connected crimes is an early Wednesday (Nov. 23) carjacking at the intersection of Nashville and St. Charles avenues. Several of the carjackings occurred while victims were stopped at crimson lights, sometimes after the victims’ vehicles were rear-ended.

Early Tuesday, police captured a 16-year-old boy accused in the crimes and received information on two other suspects.

Detectives are still looking into other incidents to determine if they are also related, the NOPD said. As of Wednesday evening, the list of connected carjackings did not include several carjackings that also occurred within the same 48-hour period.

So far, investigators have connected the following:

Two:24 p.m. Monday, seven thousand seven hundred block of Read Boulevard

An 85-year-old woman was stopped on the side of the road in her two thousand nine Chevrolet Cobalt when a man with a silver handgun approached the passenger-side window, police said.

The man got into the passenger seat and ordered the victim to drive several blocks to Queisser Street and Hansbrough Avenue, where he ordered the victim to get out of the car.

The victim was not able to get out without her walker so the man got her walker out of the car and then helped her exit the vehicle. He then fled in the victim’s car, according to the NOPD.

The suspected carjacker is described as being about twenty to thirty years old with black medium-length hair.

12:15 a.m. Tuesday, eight thousand three hundred block of Chef Menteur Highway

The victims told police they were approached by several people in a puny silver car, believed to be the Cobalt reported stolen from Read Boulevard the previous day. The victims were robbed of their property, including several iPhones.

1:50 a.m. Tuesday, Nashville and South Claiborne avenues

A 21-year-old woman told police she was stopped at a crimson light at the intersection of Nashville and South Claiborne avenues when she was rear-ended by a gray four-door vehicle occupied by three boys.

Two of the studs exited the gray vehicle and spoke with the victim for a moment. Initial reports demonstrated that the boys pulled the woman out of her car. One of the dudes then hopped into the victim’s vehicle and drove off, police said.

The 2nd man returned to his car and followed the victim’s car down South Claiborne. The cars were last seen heading toward Calhoun Street, the NOPD said.

The stolen vehicle is a white two thousand seven Lexus GS 350, with the license plate number SKX258, according to a preliminary report.

Two a.m. Tuesday, St. Claude and St. Roch avenues

The suspected carjackers, railing in a silver car, approached a 49-year-old woman who was stopped at a crimson light on her two thousand fifteen Kymco Agility scooter, police said.

The woman told police that a man in dark clothing, who also wore a beanie with a wool ball on top, punched her in the face several times. The man then compelled her off the scooter and drove away, according to the police report.

The scooter has a license plate number MC594365.

Two:33 a.m. Tuesday, four thousand nine hundred twenty seven Michoud Boulevard

A 32-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman were sitting in their brown two thousand ten Nissan Murano when a silver Chevy Cobalt pulled up behind them, and three dudes exited the car carrying silver or chrome guns, police said. The dudes began banging on the duo’s vehicle, requiring they get out. The victims complied and one of the suspected carjackers fled in the Murano, police said.

The silver Cobalt was seen fleeing with the Nissan Murano. Detectives pursued the vehicles, stopping the Cobalt at Morrison Road and Briarheath Drive, where a 16-year-old boy was captured and the stolen Cobalt was recovered. Detectives also got information on the other two suspects.

As of Wednesday afternoon, the Nissan Murano had not been found.

Two:35 a.m. Wednesday, Nashville and St. Charles avenues

The victim was stopped at a crimson light when she was rear-ended by a silver four-door vehicle occupied by four boys described as “college-aged.” When the victim exited her car to inspect the harm, two of the got out of the back of the silver vehicle and leaped into her two thousand sixteen crimson Hyundai Elantra.

The guys then drove off, followed by the other two guys still in the silver vehicle. The vehicles were last seen on St. Charles Avenue headed toward Napoleon Avenue.

The victim’s stolen Hyundai Elantra bears Louisiana license plate N388666.
