On Wednesday, the City of El Paso and Southwest Airlines announced the sixth newest unceasing flight from El Paso International Airport.
“This is a major accomplishment for El Paso. We are listening to our community and making major progress in suggesting more options to fly to popular destinations. We are excited to announce these superb opportunities for leisure and business travelers alike,” Mayor Dee Margo said.
The El Paso airport will now suggest a fresh, unceasing flight to San Diego and extra flights to Las Vegas.
“We are working continuously to increase connectivity in El Paso, with each extra nonstop flight we are achieving our objective to grow the core business of air transportation.” City Manager Tommy Gonzalez said.
Southwest Airlines released their flight schedule through June 1, 2018. The fresh non stop flight to San Diego will commence March 11, 2018, and will fly on Sundays.
Two extra nonstop flights to Las Vegas will commence April 14, 2018, and will also be flying on Sundays. Flights can be booked now at southwest.com.

El Paso International Airport Passes Rigorous FAA Safety Inspection
El Paso International Airport (EPIA) Passes Annual Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airport Certification Inspection with zero discrepancies.
“It is through the hard work and dedication of Airport and ARFF staff year-round that El Paso International Airport is able to provide a first-class, safe and secure facility for airlines and the passengers they serve,” said Monica Lombraña, Director of Aviation, “I am truly proud of what staff has accomplished.”
Every year, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) conducts a three-day comprehensive review and rigorous inspection of all commercial airports nationwide to ensure that airports are following national safety standards; successful certification is required for an airport to proceed commercial operations.
El Paso International Airport (EPIA) finished its FAA Part 139-Certification and Operations Inspection with zero discrepancies, confirming that EPIA is a safe, efficient and well-run airport.
Included in the FAA Part one hundred thirty nine Inspection is a review of:
· Airport Emergency Plan (AEP)
· Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) equipment, training, and response times
· Airport personnel operations and procedures, including self-inspection and maintenance logs
· Immobilized Base Operators (FBO) aircraft fueling procedures and fuel truck safety
· Evaluation of all airfield markings, lighting and signage
The FAA inspection was led by EPIA Operations and ARFF Divisions.

Tuesday the City of El Paso and Frontier Airlines announced fresh, non stop flights from El Paso International Airport to Denver International Airport commencing March 8, two thousand eighteen .
“This is good news. Frontier Airlines decision introduce fresh, direct flights will open more opportunities for leisure and business travel, which is something El Pasoans have told us they want,” Mayor Dee Margo said.
The fresh flights to Denver will run four days a week, with connections available to destinations nationwide, as well as connections to Latin America and the Caribbean.
“We have worked tirelessly to bring more nonstop flights to El Paso and the hard work is paying off. The extra direct flights will stimulate travel, tourism and our regional economy,” City Manager Tommy Gonzalez said.
Frontier will operate an Airbus A320 family aircraft on the fresh route with low introductory fares as well as travel bundles for affordable air travel options.
“We are excited to announce service from another airline that offers extra, affordable options for travelers. We look forward to the fresh partnership with Frontier,” said Monica Lombraña, A.A.E., Director of Aviation.

El Paso International Airport Upgrading Checked Baggage Inspection System

Embarking June 6th, the El Paso International Airport (EPIA) is embarking work on a fresh Checked Baggage Inspection Screening System (CBIS).
As part of the two-year construction project, the existing checked baggage inspection system located behind the airline ticket counter will be rebuilt. A makeshift checked bag drop off location has been set up in the main lobby of the airport terminal to screen baggage during the construction period.
- Commencing June 6, 2016, Checked Baggage will no longer be dropped off at the airline ticket counter for duration of the project
- Travelers with checked baggage must very first check in at airline ticket counter prior to ripping off bags off at the Checked Bag Drop location
- After checking in at airline ticket counter, travelers will drop checked bags off at the makeshift Checked Bag Drop location in the main lobby of the airport terminal
- Travelers will need to permit for extra time during peak travel times; it is recommended to arrive at least two hours prior to flight’s departure time.
The $32 million project will enhance the security and baggage screening capabilities at the airport. It will centralize the checked bag screening process and make it more efficient by speeding up the time it takes to inspect checked baggage before it is loaded onto airplanes. The project is funded by the Passenger Facility Charge, Airport Enterprise funds and the Transportation and Security Administration (TSA).
The CBIS upgrade and expansion will feature:
- An enclosed almost 32,000 square foot structure to protect screening machines and personnel from the elements
- Capability to screen a higher volume of baggage in a shorter amount of time
- The capability to activate extra curbside conveyor lines for future airline expansion
- Enhanced machine reliability-currently if a machine goes down, baggage must be moved to another machine which can cause delays.

El Paso International Airport (EPIA) now offers clean, private and convenient spaces where nursing mothers can go to feed their little ones while traveling.
Nursing lounges are conveniently located on the 2nd floor in Concourse A, near gate A3, and in Concourse B, near gate B6; both are post security checkpoints. The lounges are each outfitted with a washing station for cleaning equipment, a diaper switching area, lightly accessible electrical outlets, comfy seating and a secured door.
“We wished to provide a space that was quiet, clean and convenient for nursing mothers to assist them in making their traveling practice a little lighter at our airport,” said Monica Lombraña, Director of Aviation, El Paso International Airport.
A third lounge is scheduled to open this summer in the terminal’s passenger receiving area. The passenger receiving area is presently undergoing renovations and is located on the very first floor before the security checkpoint.

El Paso International Airport ties for 2nd in National two thousand sixteen ASQ Awards
El Paso International Airport tied for 2nd place in Best Airport by Region in the two thousand sixteen Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Awards in airport service quality.
This is the Airport’s very first award since commencing participation in the Airport Service Quality survey program in 2015; El Paso International Airport tied with Tampa and Ottawa Airports for two nd place. A total of forty two Airports in North America participated in the two thousand sixteen ACI ASQ program.

El Paso International Airport provided service to over Two.8 million passengers in 2016, a 1.6% increase over the previous year. In 2016, nonstop service to San Diego, Orlando/Sanford and Oakland, as well as extra service to Las Vegas, was added with the introduction of Allegiant Airlines.
The Airport proceeds investing in its facilities and amenities to further its mission of providing a safe, aesthetically pleasing and pleasurable travelling practice for its passengers with its implementation of a five-year capital improvement program totaling over $109 million.
As part of this program, improvements to be undertaken include fresh landscaping, renovations to east and west concourses, a fresh Passenger Notification System, and renovations to the meeter-greeter area, to include the addition of a state-of-the-art virtual, interactive wall that will highlight all that El Paso has to suggest.
The Airports Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) program is unique as the airport industry’s only global benchmarking program measuring passengers’ satisfaction as they travel through the airport. Implemented at over three hundred twenty airports worldwide, the ASQ program supplies an in-depth assessment of the quality of the customer service practice in thirty four key spectacle indicators, including airport access, check-in, security screening, restrooms, and food & retail establishments.
The resulting database permits for a comprehensive analysis of the customer service practice at each participating airport. Two thousand sixteen ASQ results place ASQ Awards winners among the world’s best airports for the quality of their customer service practice.

EPIA Celebrates Holiday Travel Season with Decorations, Entertainment and Shopping

Decorations and entertainment are turning the El Paso International Airport (EPIA) into a festive place for the holiday season.
The airport will welcome about 250,000 passengers, plus thousands of their friends and family members, picking them up or sending them off during the month of December.
In anticipation of this busy holiday travel season, the airport has set out to make it an pleasant and memorable practice with decorations, live entertainment, shopping and more. The festivities at the airport are intended to compliment holiday activities in downtown at San Jacinto Plaza and WinterFest.
The airport is decorated with Christmas trees and wreaths, and other ornaments making it a welcoming place for passenger departures, arrivals and family and friend reunions.
Outside the airport you will find:
- 75,000 lights decorate trees along Terminal Drive and Convair Road
- Nineteen,000 lights line the building roof and porte-cochere
- Ten (Ten) – 9-foot tall 2-dimensional displays in the shapes of bounty boxes, ornaments and starlets along Terminal Drive
- Fifty-three (53) – 4-foot tall ornament wreaths dangle through Airway Drive from I-10 to Airport Road and around Terminal Drive
Inwards the terminal visitors and passengers will see:
- 30-foot lighted outdoor tree
- Indoor Decorations
- 25-foot tall indoor tree with unique, re-purposed and handmade ornaments
- About eight hundred feet of garland
- Nine (9) – 4-foot tall arm decorated wreaths
Around thirty musical ensembles are scheduled to perform inbetween December 7th and December 22nd in the airport’s meeter/greeter area.
Various bands, orchestras, choirs from high schools and middle schools from around the area will perform holiday music for passengers as they arrive. (see schedule below)
For those who still need that special bounty, they can get their shopping done at the airport. Galleria Zia Native Arts and The Plaza News and Bounty are both located pre-security. Even if visitors are not flying out, they can always drop by and shop.
Bounty shops suggest local, handmade and unique bounty options. After security, shop at the brand fresh El Paso Marketplace, as well as the Barnett Harley Davidson, El Paso Sun City News, Heritage Book Sellers and CNBC East.
For travelers, Airport ambassadors will be on duty during peak hours to provide assistance to travelers. Ambassadors will have giveaways and complimentary pictures by the tree.

El Paso International Airport Invites Travelers to Enroll in TSA Pre✓®
El Paso International Airport (EPIA) invites passengers to enroll in the popular TSA Pre✓® expedited screening program at a improvised application center from September 19-30, two thousand sixteen .

El Paso International Airport (EPIA) has opened a fresh Service Animal Ease Area located in Concourse B.
The Service Animal Ease Area is conveniently located within the secured area so passengers and their service animals do not have to repeat the TSA screening process to use a facility, especially after arriving or when making a connecting flight.
“We are always looking to expand the amenities for our traveling public and, in this case, their loyal companions too,” said Monica Lombraña, Director of Aviation. “We hope that this helps all travelers love their practice at the El Paso International Airport.”
The fresh Service Animal Ease Area is enclosed and is tooled with water, ventilation and drainage systems, artificial grass, mock fire hydrant and supplies for disposition of animal waste. This is the airport’s 2nd service animal ease area.
The other is located in the short-term parking lot across from the terminal which includes shade, water, and disposition supplies.
Animals must remain under leash control while in the ease area and all waste must be picked up by animal’s owners. This enhancement serves with the latest federal requirements for airports to provide Service Animal Ease Areas for service animals that accompany passengers.
Those traveling with family pets are also welcome to use ease areas. The policy and pricing for traveling with pets vary by airline, it is recommended that travelers contact their airline ahead of time. With the exception of certified service animals, pets in all other areas of the airport terminal must remain in their kennels and ready for travel.
Signs are posted at both ease areas, and locations can be found in the terminal directory.

City Council today ratified the five-year Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) for the El Paso International Airport (EPIA) estimated at approximately $107.Five million.
The capital plan for Fiscal Years 2017-2021 will predominately target airfield pavement projects including reconstructing the primary runway and various taxiways while still addressing other airport maintenance and safety needs, such as upgrades to escalators, heating and cooling systems, and the baggage inspection area.
“The main concentrate of the CIP is pavement rehabilitation within the airfield. Approximately $52.57 million will be allocated to improving our runways, taxiways and airfield perimeter roads,” Aviation Director Monica Lombraña said.
She added, “The investment in airfield pavement permits the airport to stay compliant with Part one hundred thirty nine FAA regulations on safety and the quality of the pavement required for continued commercial operations. In addition, the airport in conjunction with TSA has programmed approximately $29.Five million for the Consolidated Baggage Inspection System project.”
The CIP funding includes $Eighteen.9 million from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Grants, $50.Four million from the Passenger Facility Charge Program, $14.Two million from the Transportation Security Administration (TSA), $Two.Five million from the Customer Facility Charge and $21.Four million from the Airport Enterprise Funds.
The plan was developed and coordinated with all federal agencies, airlines and other stakeholders at the airport.
The balance of the CIP includes projects that address operational and aesthetic improvements for the airport and facility replacement of assets that have exceeded their useful life.

El Paso International Airport tops in passenger satisfaction
Among participating Texas airports, El Paso International Airport has received a ranking of #1 in thirteen categories and has tied for the #1 ranking in one category in terms of Passenger Satisfaction Received for airport spectacle in the Airport Council International (ACI) Airport Service Quality (ASQ) Passenger Survey, Worldwide Airport Ranking for the fourth quarter of 2015.
The participating Texas Airports include: Austin, Dallas Love Field, Dallas/Fort Worth, El Paso, and San Antonio.
“These results provide direct feedback from our travelers and we value their opinion,” said Jeff Schultes, Deputy Director of Aviation Administration.”
“With the results of this survey we will be able to benchmark among other airports, and recognize our strengths as well as concentrate on areas of improvement,” Schultes added. This all falls in line with the City’s strategic objective of creating an environment conductive to strong, sustainable economic development; with the key concentrate on Customer Service.
The ACI ASQ Survey is a customer satisfaction measurement and benching marking service, the same survey is conducted via the world by participating airports. EPIA surveyed three hundred fifty passengers over the last three months.
