Gallery: Opening day for the 17th Annual Syracuse Nationals
More than 8,000 classic cars will take over the Fresh York State Fairgrounds this weekend (July fourteen to 16, 2017) for the 18th Annual PPG Syracuse Nationals Car Display.
The car showcase, which attracts four hundred thirty vendors and more than 90,000 visitors hoping to see hot rods, collector’s vehicles, and eye-popping car designs, has a jam-packed schedule including live entertainment and food, celebrity guests, and the addition of a mountain bike stunt showcase this year.
The event kicks off this Friday at eight a.m. and there’s no shortage of things to do. Here’s the run-down.
All Weekend
Artie’s Party: Across the weekend sixty artists from all over the world will gather in the Horticulture Building to hand-paint unique automotive artwork on items like vehicle panels and skateboards. The artwork is sold at live auction in order to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House Charities of CNY. Tho’ Artie’s Party is the name of the entire event, the real party takes place Friday night with music by Donna & Sam.
Winfield Award: Months prior to the event, Gene Winfield car holder and builder of over fifty years, selected six finalists that represent the best in auto customization from dozens of entries to win $Ten,000, a custom-made trophy, and a jacket. The vehicles will be on display in the Horticulture building all weekend.
Mike Steidley Mountain Bike Stunt Showcase: The newest addition to the event takes place at noon and Four:00 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday. Mountain bikes will tackle ramps and obstacles in a high-energy spectacle.
Syracuse Mini Nationals: This model car contest, which features the largest display in the Northeast, takes place in the Center of Progress Building’s North Wing. While the prizes are not awarded until noon on Sunday, the display area is open from nine a.m. to six p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Tech Seminars: Visitors can check out Art & Home Center for seminars varying from selecting the right brakes to calculating engine speed both Friday and Saturday. The schedule can be found here.
Women’s World: The Art & Home Center will also host more than fifty craft and family-oriented vendors and their merchandise displays for those looking to do some shopping.
Exchange Meet and Car Corral: Those who are looking for original parts or their next project car might want to check this meet out.
Gasoline Alley Nostalgic Race Car Exhibit: Located in the Horticulture Building, Gasoline Alley will showcase fifty vintage cars including dragsters and funny cars. Fifteen minutes prior to the beginning of each Artie’s Party auction, a funny car known as Frantic Ford will be began.
Fireworks: The displays will commence Friday and Saturday at 9:30 p.m.
Friday
Backyard Build-Off: The Backyard Build-Off pits three contestants against each other to see who can build the best vehicle only using a $Five,000 budget and rules designed to honor the early days of hot rods and custom-built building. This year’s contests features past winners who will be unveiling their fresh creations at ten a.m. in the Ol’ Skool Rodz Building, near Gate Ten.
Nationals After Dark: A Friday night pig roast featuring music by Lonesome Dove and Matt Pursue & Thunder Canyon starts at 6:30 p.m.
Saturday
Pin-Up Female: Contestants can register all-day Friday and Saturday morning to challenge in the cash-prize contest that takes place Saturday afternoon.
Awards Banquet: The Syracuse Nationals Awards Banquet will feature a total buffet at 6:00 p.m. Several awards including the 7th Annual Winfield Award and the Street Rodder Top Ten Awards will be introduced. Tickets can be purchased on site at the Center of Progress.
Nationals After Dark: The Saturday night barbeque starts at 6:30 featuring live music from Hot Rod Ford, two Dollar Bill, and April Mae & the June Bugs.
Outdoor Movie: A displaying of Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby starts at 9:45 pm.
Sunday
American Muscle Sunday: However the event’s rules thresholds eligibility in the Syracuse Nationals to cars manufactured up to 1985, American-made spectacle cars and trucks manufactured after one thousand nine hundred eighty six are permitted to hit the field on Sunday.

Tickets: Adult one-day tickets are $20 at the gate, $8 for children 6-12, and free for children under Five. Advance discount tickets are available until July twelve at midnight by buying tickets online or visiting a NAPA auto parts store.
