SLINGER — All lanes of I-41 were closed near Highway sixty in Slinger due to “several traffic incidents,” Monday morning, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
Traffic is being asked to exit at WIS 60, drive east to US 45, then south back to I-41.
The incident is expected to take several hours to clear. As of 1:00 p.m., one northbound lane had been reopened.
The Washington County Sheriff`s Office said the crash involved about thirty vehicles, eight of with where semi trucks.
Another thirty cars ended up in the ditch on the side of the interstate, and did not sustain harm.
Five people were sent to the hospital with non-life menacing injuries, and traffic on I-41 was shut down for six hours.
Drivers were fortunate to live through the mess.
Teresa Hall was o her way to Michigan when she found herself in the pileup.
“It was scary, at very first I ended up in the median, I didn’t hit anybody then when I eyed the other cars and where they were going to go it was very scary,” she said.
Josh Fleischman has three youthful boys, and he said it helped him get through the ordeal.
“[They’re] all ten and under and it was just the very first thing I tho’ of was them and how fortunate I was to escape that without any major injury,” he said.
