Explosions in Utsunomiya park in Japan kill one person and injure two
The blasts ripped through a park during a popular festival celebrating traditional culture
A RETIRED soldier blew himself up, killing himself and injuring several others in a series of explosions that ripped through a park near a traditional festival in Japan.
The 72-year-old pensioner's assets was found after two almost simultaneous explosions were heard in a park in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, north of Tokyo on Sunday morning.
Searing cars were also reportedly found in a parking lot about 11.30am, with footage of the scene capturing the dramatic blaze and smoke billowing from the blast site.
State broadcaster NHK news has since reported that a suicide note written by the retired soldier was found in one of the burnt out cars.
The car was possessed by a 72-year-old former member of the Self-Defense Coerces, whose house was demolished in a fire just before the explosions.
